Create Your First Website – Explained in Plain English

Creating your first website can appear a daunting and expensive process for most people who have not done it before, however with all the advances in technology it is now simpler than ever to create your own website for minimal cost.

If you are in Business, then it is essential that you have even the simplest website so your customers can find you. The days of people looking for you in the yellow pages is coming to an end. Most people use Google or similar search engines to find businesses and I use it to continually promote my website, even when I sleep!

For many businesses a one page website is a great starting point and very achievable.
So what do you need to have a website?

Firstly you need a domain name which represents your business name and something people would search for on the internet. If your business is named Sues Coffee then go to a domain register like Go Daddy and register www.suescoffee.com . This will cost you around $12 per year.

Next you will need to set up a hosting account to put your website on the web. You can do this for around $5 a month at a hosting service like Hostgator.

The last component is the website design which you can do for free by loading wordpress onto your computer – (www.wordpress.org).

WordPress is a very simple website design program which is now used by millions of people around the world. With a little patience you can set up a single or multiple page website which you can change and update as required.

With wordpress you can choose form thousands of free themes on the web and within the wordpress website. A simple example of a website I created recently is www.fengshuicompanion.com .

Another way to set up your theme is use prepackaged programs like Socrates which will guide you through the process.

Having your own website is now something very achievable for all businesses and continually helps to promote my website.
