My previous article outlined the three basic ingredients for setting up your own website, namely getting a domain name, setting up your web hosting and finally setting up your website design with wordpress.

Now you have your website set up what are your website design and theme options?

As mentioned previously there are literally thousands of web themes and styles which can be uploaded to your word press site. They vary in colour, number of columns and style.

You can find many at www.wordpress.org , you can try the Socrates WordPress Design System or you could try to use a theme from someone like Elegant Themes for more advanced styles. Some of the web themes we have set up on wordpress include the following:

As you can see there is a wide variety of themes to set up for your business. The beauty of word press is that you can change your theme and structure at any time your want, as you have access to what is called the content management system. You have complete control as to how simple or complex your website design needs to be.

WordPress allows you to set up a blog page and as many fixed pages as you like. The blog page is usually the first page and then there are fixed web pages.

Assuming you want a very simple one page design then choose a simple theme and just set up your web page by following the tutorials at word press.

For your simple one page website the page just needs to include a banner with your business name and then in the text area below the banner write a few words which describe your business. Also write down all the information on how a customer can find you. You can also add a photo or image to the site like we have done with www.purestuf.cn above.

Web designs like this are usually uncluttered and the main focus of the site is to communicate what your business does and where it is located.
